Barrie, ON – Barrie police are set to provide a significant update Tuesday morning on what they are calling the largest homicide investigation in the city’s history—one tied to a homeless encampment in central Barrie.
A press conference is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Barrie Police Headquarters, where Chief Rich Johnston and Sgt. Brett Carleton will share new details on the case that has shocked the community and drawn attention across the region.
The investigation began on July 30, when police secured a wooded encampment site bordered by Victoria Street, John Street, and Anne Street South. The site, once occupied by around 60 people experiencing homelessness, has since been cleared by the City of Barrie and remains closed as cleanup efforts continue.
Police allege that 52-year-old Robert Ladouceur—known locally as “Tattoo Rob”—is responsible for the deaths of two men: William “Blake” Robinson, 45, and David Kyle Cheesequay, 41.
Ladouceur was arrested earlier this month on separate weapons and flight-from-police charges. He is now facing a wide array of additional charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, indignity to a body, and several weapons and drug-related offences.
Court documents reveal chilling details: Robinson was allegedly killed on January 18, with dismemberment occurring over the following weeks. The second alleged victim, Cheesequay, was reportedly killed on July 28, with dismemberment occurring between July 28 and August 2.
The investigation has since expanded beyond city limits, with suspected human remains discovered in Huntsville and northern Simcoe County. Those remains have been sent for forensic testing.
The charges against Ladouceur have not been proven in court. Police are expected to provide further clarity on the case and the ongoing investigation during Tuesday’s press conference.
