Barrie police say a traffic stop during last week’s winter storm led to the seizure of cocaine, cash, and a prohibited weapon.
Police allege that on Jan. 15 at around 12:30 p.m., officers with the Barrie Police Service conducted a traffic stop on Hart Drive after receiving a call about a suspicious person.
When officers approached the vehicle, police say a half-empty bottle of whisky was observed in the back seat. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly led to the discovery of a large quantity of suspected cocaine and approximately $5,000 in Canadian cash.
In a news release issued Monday, police further allege that a spring-assisted prohibited knife was also seized.
As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old man from Mississauga and a 33-year-old woman from Muskoka Lakes have both been charged with possession of cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
Police say the male suspect is facing additional charges, including driving with open alcohol, possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order, and possession of an identity document.
The investigation remains ongoing.
