Quebec – Four men, including members of the Canadian Armed Forces, have been charged in an alleged plot to form an anti-government militia and forcibly seize land near Quebec City, the RCMP announced Tuesday.
The charges follow an investigation by the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team, which found the group engaged in military-style training, including shooting, ambush tactics, survival drills, and navigation exercises. Police say they also carried out a scouting operation and used prohibited firearms, high-capacity magazines, and tactical equipment.
In January 2024, RCMP executed searches in the Quebec City area, seizing 83 firearms, 16 explosive devices, nearly 130 magazines, 11,000 rounds of ammunition, night vision goggles, and other military-grade gear.
Marc-Aurèle Chabot, 24, of Quebec City; Simon Angers-Audet, 24, of Neuville; and Raphaël Lagacé, 25, also of Quebec City, are charged with taking steps to facilitate terrorist activity.
A fourth man, Matthew Forbes, 33, of Pont-Rouge, faces multiple weapons and explosives charges, including possession of controlled and prohibited items.
All four were expected to appear in court Tuesday. The RCMP did not specify which of the accused are active members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
