Ontario-The Premiers of Ontario and Alberta have signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in Calgary to study the possibility of building new pipelines and rail lines between the two provinces. These proposed transportation routes would connect Alberta’s oil, gas, and mineral resources to James Bay in Eastern Ontario.

The agreements also include a commitment to use Ontario-made steel. The study aims to encourage the private sector to step forward for development.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford stated that these efforts aim to strengthen Canada’s economy in light of tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump. He also expressed hope that Ottawa would support the initiative and scrap certain energy regulations, such as the net-zero targets.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said the agreements reflect both provinces’ commitment to increasing investment and improving market access for their key industries.
