Hamilton Police Service’s Break and Enter, Auto Theft and Robbery (B.E.A.R.) Unit has charged two people following a multi-faceted investigation involving repeated arson attacks, alleged elder abuse, breach of court orders, and stolen vehicles.

Police say the investigation began in December 2025 after a suspicious fire at a Stipley neighbourhood residence. Officers later determined the home and an associated outbuilding were intentionally set on fire on four occasions between December 2025 and January 2026, causing approximately $100,000 in damage.

Police executed a search warrant at a Hamilton Mountain residence and arrested two suspects. Nicholas Tomasetti, 28, also known as “Chine,” and Kayla Harris, 23, were charged with arson, break and enter, mischief causing property damage, and possession of incendiary materials.

Investigators have not released details on the suspected motive but stated the arsons were targeted.

As the arson investigation progressed, police uncovered evidence of prolonged abuse involving an elderly victim. Investigators allege the victim was subjected to repeated assaults, forcible confinement, threats, and the use of weapons over an extended period.

Further searches at properties linked to the suspects resulted in the recovery of stolen vehicles and proceeds of crime. Police say several vehicles were stolen and re-identified, with additional charges anticipated.

Further charges have been laid against Tomasetti and Harris, including  assault causing bodily harm, possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000, forcible confinement, and altering, destroying, or removing a vehicle identification number. Police noted that additional charges are anticipated in relation to the allegedly stolen vehicles.
