Conservative MP Sandra Cobena, from Newmarket–Aurora MP Sandra Cobena has introduced new legislation aimed at strengthening protections for homeowners in the face of rising home invasion concerns. The proposed Bill C-270, known as the Stand on Guard Act, seeks to clarify self-defence laws by amending the Criminal Code. Under the bill, if an individual knowingly and unlawfully enters a home, the force used by the occupant to defend themselves would be presumed reasonable—unless proven otherwise.
Cobena discussed the proposed legislation in an interview with host Shameel Jasvir, on RED FM’s morning show, where key questions focused on public safety, legal clarity, and the balance between self-defence and accountability. The conversation explored how the bill could impact homeowners across Canada and addressed concerns around rising crime and personal security. The full interview will be available alongside this report.
