A police officer with the Toronto Police Service has been arrested and charged following an investigation into alleged unauthorized access of police databases.
Police allege the officer accessed private databases without authorization on multiple occasions between January 2024 and April 2025.
The accused, Abbas Popal, 25, is a constable assigned to 55 Division and has approximately three years of service. He has been charged with unauthorized use of a computer.
Following the charge, Const. Popal has been suspended with pay in accordance with Community Safety and Policing Act.
He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at 10 Armoury Street on June 4, 2026, at 2 p.m.
Police noted that the allegations are not connected to Project South. The allegations have not been proven.
