Police in Durham region have issued an arrest warrant for a 35-year-old man accused of orchestrating a fraudulent business scheme that cost an investor more than $200,000 in Durham Region.
According to investigators with the Financial Crimes Unit, the case began in late January 2026 after a complaint from a victim who had been convinced to invest in what was presented as a promising trucking and transportation startup. The suspect allegedly claimed he had secured a $1 million business loan and had multiple transportation contracts already in place.
Believing the opportunity was legitimate, the victim reportedly agreed to partner in the venture and was convinced to transfer $200K to support startup costs.
However, investigators later determined that the banking and business contracts were entirely fraudulent. Police say no such loan existed.
Authorities have identified the suspect as Sahil Thakur, of Brampton. He is wanted on multiple charges, including fraud over $5,000, obtaining funds by false pretences, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime.
Police have released a photo of the accused and are asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact investigators or provide anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and the investigation remains ongoing.
