One suspect charged, three more oustanding after armed home invasion in Vaughan

A 24-year-old man is facing multiple charges after being shot during an alleged armed home invasion in Vaughan early Tuesday morning. 

According to York Regional Police, officers responded to reports of a shooting around 12:50 a.m. on March 17, 2026, at a residence near Carrville Woods Circle and Crimson Forest Drive. Investigators say several suspects, at least one of whom was armed with a firearm, forcibly entered the home. 

Police say a resident retrieved a accessed a legally owned and properly stored firearm and fired at the intruders, prompting them to flee the scene in a black pickup truck before officers arrived. No one inside the home was physically injured. A video of the incident released by police can be watched here.

A few hours later, police were notified that an injured man had been dropped off at a hospital in the Toronto area with a gunshot wound. Authorities later confirmed he had been injured during the attempted home invasion. 

The suspect has been identified as Trestin Cassanova-Alman, 24, who has no fixed address. He has been charged with robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent in relation to the home invasion, as well as breach of a probation order related to unrelated offences. Police say he was already under a probation order at the time of the incident. 

He remains in hospital under police custody and is reported to be in stable condition. 

Investigators say the accused is known to police and is wanted by multiple agencies for a number of violent offences. He had previously been identified in connection with Project Wrangler, a joint investigation that targeted a violent criminal network operating across Ontario and Quebec. 

Police continue to search for three additional suspects who remain at large. The investigation is ongoing.
