Peel police charge an 18-year-old male, seize unauthorized firearm during traffic stop in Brampton

Peel Regional Police say that officers with the Community Intervention and Response Team from 22 Division have arrested and charged an 18-year-old Brampton man after a traffic stop for careless driving allegedly led to the discovery of a loaded firearm. 

Police say that on Friday, Feb. 27, officers were patrolling the area of Kennedy Road and Clarence Road when they observed a vehicle allegedly speeding and making unsafe lane changes. The vehicle was pulled over, and during the stop, officers conducted a search of the driver under the Cannabis Control Act. 

During the search, officers allegedly located a loaded Glock 17 handgun along with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition. 

Malachi King-Favours, 18, of Brampton, has been charged with multiple firearm-related offences, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, being an occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm present, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and possession of a prohibited device or ammunition knowing its possession was unauthorized. He is also charged with careless driving. 

King-Favours was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.
