Barrie police responded to a single-vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday evening and allegedly involved an impaired driver with a child in the car.
Officers were called to an area on North Village Way in Park Place area at approximately 6:30 p.m. on February 25, 2026. Police say a suspected impaired driver struck several protective pillars located outside an indoor play facility. The caller also reported that the vehicle was allegedly close to entering the building’s main entrance.
According to police, the woman’s five-year-old child was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported.
Investigators allege the driver attempted to leave the scene, but significant damage to the vehicle caused it to stop nearby. Officers arrived shortly after and began an impaired driving investigation. Police say the woman provided breath samples that registered approximately three times the legal alcohol limit.
A 42-year-old Barrie woman has been charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg, and dangerous operation.
She was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a future date. The child was picked up at the scene by a family member.
Police are reminding the public that impaired driving poses a serious risk to the community. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is urged to call 911 immediately.
