Hamilton police looking for driver after serious hit-and-run incident

The Hamilton Police Service is investigating a hit-and-run collision that left a pedestrian with life-altering injuries. 

Police said in a news release that the crash occurred around 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the intersection of Rymal Road East and Upper Wellington Street. Emergency crews responded after reports that a 44-year-old man had been struck by a vehicle. 

Police say the driver failed to stop at a red light, paused briefly after the collision, and then fled eastbound on Rymal Road East in a Jeep SUV. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. 

The Hamilton Police Traffic Safety Unit is leading the investigation, speaking with witnesses and reviewing nearby video surveillance and dashcam footage.
