York Regional Police (YRP) have charged a man in connection with an alleged robbery in Markham after a victim arranged to meet the suspect to buy concert tickets following a conversation on a social media platform. Police are encouraging any additional victims to come forward and speak with investigators.
In a news release, police said that on February 4, 2026, officers responded to a street-level robbery complaint in the area of Apple Creek Boulevard and Town Centre Boulevard in Markham. According to investigators, the female victim told police she had been communicating with someone on the Chinese social media platform Redbook about buying concert tickets. The two agreed to meet at a commercial plaza in the area to complete the transaction.
The victim reported that when she arrived to meet the suspect, he allegedly pointed a knife at her and demanded money. The suspect then fled the scene in a 2025 Mercedes-Benz sedan.
Following an investigation, police identified a suspect. On February 12, 2026, 19-year-old Pui Hin Lee of Markham was charged with robbery.
Investigators have released images of the accused and they believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact police.
