33-year-old charged following unprovoked pepper spray attack: Police

Toronto police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged pepper spray attack that took place on Valentine’s Day in the city’s downtown core. 

According to police, officers responded to a report of an assault at around 3:55 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, in the area of Spadina Avenue and Nassau Street. Investigators allege that a victim was walking northbound on Spadina Avenue toward Nassau Street when a suspect approached and, without provocation, discharged a substance believed to be pepper spray into the victim’s face. The suspect then fled the scene, continuing southbound on Spadina Avenue. 

Police say the suspect was located and arrested on Monday, Feb. 16. Anthony Bernhardt, 33, of no fixed address, has been charged with assault with a weapon, administering a noxious substance with intent to endanger life, and breach of probation.
