Ajax teen charged after firearm and drugs found at secondary school

A 17-year-old male youth is facing multiple criminal charges following a firearm investigation at a Catholic secondary school in Ajax, police say. 

Durham Regional Police responded to Father Donald Maclellan Catholic Secondary School, located at 458 Fairall Street, at approximately 10:55 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, after receiving information that a student may have been in possession of a firearm. Officers from West Division located the male inside the school and took him into custody without incident. 

During the arrest, police say they recovered a firearm equipped with a prohibited extended magazine, as well as drugs. Investigators also confirmed that the youth was already subject to a weapons prohibition order at the time of the incident. 

The teen, who is from Ajax, has been charged with several offences, including Carry Concealed Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device, Possess Weapon Dangerous, Possess Firearm with Ammunition, Possess a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Fail to Comply with a Release Order.
