Peel Regional Police have arrested and charged two men following a lengthy fraud investigation involving a suspected fake contracting business operating in Brampton and Mississauga.
Police said in a news release that its investigators with the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau received reports in July 2024 about a business operating under the name A&E Contractors, allegedly linked to Timothy Carter. After a two-year investigation, police determined the company had no legitimate business operations, physical address, or corporate records. Investigators say the known financial losses now exceed $800,000.
As a result of the investigation, Timothy Carter, 66, of Mississauga, was arrested and charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, uttering threats, assault, and assault with a weapon.
Marco Maggisano, 55, of Vaughan, is charged with fraud over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime, and laundering proceeds of crime committed within Canada.
Police believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone who had dealings with A&E Contractors to contact the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau. Information can also be provided anonymously through Peel Crime Stoppers.Police are reminding residents to verify contractors before hiring, including checking references, confirming business credentials, and reviewing online feedback.
