Man dead, woman critically injured after head-on crash in Pickering

A 57-year-old man has died and a 67-year-old woman remains in critical condition following a serious two-vehicle crash in Pickering on Wednesday morning. 

Durham Regional Police say the collision occurred at approximately 7:10 a.m. on January 28, 2026, near the intersection of Kingston Road and Merritton Road. Investigators allege a westbound Toyota sedan crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with an eastbound Subaru SUV. 

The male driver of the Toyota was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A female passenger in the Subaru was also transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. The 68-year-old male driver of the Subaru was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. 

Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage, cellphone video, surveillance footage, or information related to the incident to contact Detective Constable Hoevenaars at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 5255.
