Toronto police charge 17-year-old following firearms investigation

Toronto police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old youth in a firearms investigation conducted earlier this week. 

According to police, the investigation was launched on Tuesday, January 27, by the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force-Centralized Shooting Response Team. Officers arrested a male youth in the area of Birchmount Road and Finch Avenue East. 

At the time of the arrest, police say they recovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun along with an over-capacity magazine. An image of the seized items has been released by investigators. 

The 17-year-old, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faces multiple charges, including possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm while knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited device, possession of an automobile master key, possession of break-and-enter tools, failure to comply with a court order, and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. 

The accused was scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice at 10 Armoury Street on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 10 a.m., in courtroom 606.
