Toronto police have charged a 93-year-old driver in connection with a deadly collision that occurred at a city plaza last December.
Police were called to the area of Dufferin Street and Finch Avenue West at approximately 2:28 p.m. on December 24, 2025, following reports of a personal injury collision. Investigators say the driver allegedly entered a plaza at 4400 Dufferin Street in a Nissan Murano and, for reasons that remain unclear, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a storefront.
Six people who were inside the store were struck. A 67-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two women were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver and a female passenger were treated for minor injuries. Three other people sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
On Thursday, January 22, 2026, police charged the 93-year-old driver with three counts of careless driving causing bodily harm or death. He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court at 92 Front Street East on March 26, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., in Courtroom S1.
