Toronto Police Service are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 20-year-old man wanted in connection with a series of alleged credit card frauds involving victims in Toronto and purchases made in Mississauga.
Police allege that on October 1, 2025, a victim received a phone call from a suspect posing as a bank employee. The caller claimed the victim’s credit card had been compromised and arranged for a courier to attend the victim’s home in the Cosburn Avenue and Pape Avenue area to collect the card. Investigators say the suspect later obtained the card from the courier and used it at a Mississauga jewellery store, making purchases totalling $11,000.
A similar incident is alleged to have occurred on October 3, 2025, when a second victim received a call from someone again pretending to be a bank employee. In that case, a courier was sent to a residence in the East Mall and Evans Avenue area. Police say the credit card was later used at a Mississauga jewellery store, with purchases totalling $14,000.
Following the investigation, police have identified the suspect as Madjid Benmaou, 20, of Montreal. He is wanted on multiple charges, including false pretences, fraud over and under $5,000, unauthorized use of credit card data, and possession of property obtained by crime.
Benmaou is described as having a large build, black hair, and dark brown eyes.
Police say he has links to both Quebec and Mississauga and is associated with a black Dodge pickup truck bearing a Quebec licence plate AKJ52Z.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims, and images of the suspect have been released.
