Toronto police make an arrest for alleged assault at a demonstration

Toronto police have charged a 68-year-old man following an alleged assault during a protest in the city on Monday. 

According to police, the incident occurred on January 19, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., in the area of Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West. Demonstrators and counter-demonstrators had gathered outside a private event, and officers had designated separate areas for each group. 

Police allege that during the demonstration, the accused approached a demonstrator and pushed the individual, causing them to fall to the ground. 

As a result of the incident, Marvin Weinstein, 68, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with assault. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice at 10 Armoury Street on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 2 p.m., in courtroom 202.
