A federal Conservative MP says members of the Liberal Party have attempted to persuade him to cross the floor, an allegation he discussed during a recent interview on RED FM’s morning show.
Appearing on 88.9 FM, hosted by Shameel Jasvir, Brampton West MP Amarjeet Gill referenced a post he shared on social media platform X, in which he claimed Liberals had approached him about joining their party. The comments come amid heightened political attention following recent floor crossings by two Conservative MPs.
During the interview, Gill was asked to identify who had reached out to him or whether the outreach came directly from the Liberal Party. He declined to name any individual or confirm the source, saying he was not in a position to disclose those details publicly.
When pressed on whether he would be prepared to back up his claim if legally challenged, Gill said he stands by his statement.
“I hold my word with dignity and I will stand by it,” he said during the broadcast.
Gill added that, in his view, such attempts are not new, suggesting similar efforts have taken place in the past. He did not provide evidence or additional specifics to support the allegation.
The Liberal Party has not publicly responded to Gill’s comments.
Floor crossing, when an elected official switches party affiliation while retaining their seat, has drawn renewed scrutiny in recent months.
Gill’s remarks have sparked discussion within political circles and among listeners.
