Peel Regional Police have arrested and charged another suspect under Project 24K, the investigation into the theft of more than $20 million in gold bars from Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Police say that 43-year-old Arsalan Chaudhary, of no fixed address, was arrested Monday, Jan. 12, at Pearson Airport after arriving from Dubai. He faces charges including theft over $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. Chaudhary was held for a bail hearing in Brampton.

The investigation stems from April 17, 2023, when a shipment of approximately 400 kilograms of .9999-pure gold, valued at over $20 million, along with $2.5 million in foreign currency, was reported missing after being offloaded from a flight arriving from Zurich, Switzerland. This was the largest gold heist in Canadian history.

Police say this complex, cross-border probe has so far resulted in charges or arrest warrants for 10 people, with more than 21 charges laid. Two suspects remain at large, including a former Air Canada employee believed to be in India and another Brampton man wanted on a bench warrant. A separate warrant has also been issued for a man currently facing sentencing in the United States on firearms trafficking charges.
