27-year-old man died following early-morning residential fire in Peterborough

A 27-year-old man has died following a residential fire in Peterborough early Wednesday morning. 

According to Peterborough Police, officers were notified of a fire around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. The fire happened at a home near McDonnel Street and Park Street North. 

Police say the man was located inside the home and transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Two other occupants of the residence were also taken to hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been released. 

The Ontario Fire Marshal is assisting Peterborough police with the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. Authorities say residents can expect a continued police presence in the area as the investigation remains ongoing.
