An arrest has been made in connection with the fatal shooting of a man on a GO bus at the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal in Toronto last Sunday. The Toronto Police Service shared the update today, saying officers responded to the Yorkdale GO Bus Terminal, located near Yorkdale Road and Allen Road, at around 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2026.
Police said both the suspect and the victim boarded a GO bus at the terminal and the suspect allegedly shot the victim aboard the bus before fleeing the scene. Life-saving measures were attempted on the injured man, but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was found and taken into custody by police shortly afterward, and a firearm was seized.
The victim’s identity will be released once family members have been notified. This marks Toronto’s first homicide of 2026.
Tyrel Gibson, 40, of Toronto, has been charged with first-degree murder. He was set to appear before the court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, located at 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., in courtroom 105.
