Peel police officers have arrested two men after a traffic stop and charged them with firearms-related offences. Peel Regional Police shared this information in a news release, stating that on Saturday, January 3, at around 11:50 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Dundas Street East and Dixie Road in Mississauga.

Police officers detained the occupants of the vehicle under the Cannabis Act and searched the vehicle, during which they found a loaded illegal handgun and a magazine containing ammunition. Two individuals have been arrested and charged. Lavone Reynard, a 31-year-old man from East Preston, Nova Scotia has been charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Possess a Firearm with Altered Serial Number and Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available.
Romaine Cain, a 32-year-old man from Brampton, has been charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm, Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized and Possess a Firearm with Altered Serial Number.
Both men were held pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Peel police or Peel Crime Stoppers.
