Police investigating unprovoked assault in Vaughan plaza

York Regional Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect following an unprovoked assault in the City of Vaughan. 

Investigators say the incident happened just after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, in a plaza parking lot near Mable Smith Way and Interchange Way. 

Police say two victims were walking in the area when an unknown man approached them from behind. The suspect allegedly grabbed one of the victims and assaulted them with a sharp object before fleeing the scene. 

The victim was taken to hospital with minor injuries. 

Investigators describe the suspect as a male with a light complexion, believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s, standing approximately 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall, with a medium to heavy build. He has dark facial hair and dark-coloured hair and was last seen wearing a blue and green plaid jacket and dark pants. 

Police have now released a photo of both the alleged suspect and a suspect vehicle.

York Regional Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or may have dashcam or surveillance footage from the area at the time to come forward.
