Police are appealing for public help after a shooting in Oshawa left one man seriously injured early Sunday morning.

Durham Regional Police say officers from Central East Division were called to the area of Simcoe Street North and Bond Street East around 6:05 a.m. on Sunday, December 21, following reports of an armed person.

When officers arrived, they located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound on the sidewalk. He was rushed to a Toronto-area trauma centre in life-threatening condition, though police say his condition has since been upgraded to stable.

Investigators believe the shooting took place inside an apartment just south of where the victim was found. Police say multiple people were seen leaving the area shortly after the incident, according to surveillance footage.

Durham Regional Police are now asking anyone with information to come forward. Investigators are also urging nearby businesses and residents to check security cameras, dashcams, or cellphone footage that may have captured suspicious activity around the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Wade of Central East Division at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2740.

Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online.
