Additional $130,000 in stolen goods recovered in $2M Amazon theft investigation

Investigators have recovered an additional $130,000 worth of electronics and merchandise in connection with an ongoing $2 million Amazon theft and fraud investigation, police say. 

The probe began in November 2025, when members of the Financial Crimes Unit (FCU) launched an investigation into two employees working at an Amazon Fulfillment Centre located at 789 Salem Road, Ajax. Police were contacted by Amazon Loss Prevention, who alleged that the two employees were responsible for stealing approximately $2 million in merchandise over a two-year period. 

On Tuesday, December 23, 2025, investigators executed a search warrant at a storage locker in Newmarket, where they located the additional stolen electronics and merchandise valued at roughly $130,000.

As a result, Mehul Baldevbhai Patel, 36, of Newmarket, is now facing an additional charge of Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000. He was released on an undertaking.
