Durham police arrest an alleged impaired driver and seize loaded handgun in vehicle in Whitby

Durham Regional Police Service has arrested an alleged impaired driver before locating a firearm in the vehicle in Whitby.  

Police said in a news release that on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at around 12:10 a.m., a driver was taken into cusdtody after a member of Festive RIDE team suspected alcohol impairement. This happened in  the area of Dundas Street and Brock Street during a traffic stop. During further search, police also located a loaded handgun beside the driver’s seat.

Police have arrested 18-year-old Armaan Ali Osmani of Clarington. He is facing multiple charges including impaired operation of a conveyance-exceed, possession of prohibited/restricted firearm-no license, possess loaded prohibited/restricted firearm, possess prohibited device, occupy motor vehicle with firearm, and novice driver B.A.C above zero. He was in custody for a bail hearing.
