Beyond statistics, CBSA operations across the GTA and Southern Ontario reveal the scope of real-world enforcement taking place at land borders, airports, and mail facilities. In 2025, officers at major crossings such as the Blue Water Bridge, Ambassador Bridge, and Windsor–Detroit Tunnel intercepted large commercial shipments carrying cocaine, methamphetamine, firearms, and prohibited weapons. These seizures led to multiple investigations, search warrants, and criminal charges under the Customs Act and Criminal Code.
In the GTA, CBSA investigators disrupted firearms trafficking through parcels and mail shipments intercepted in Mississauga. One investigation resulted in the arrest of a Markham resident and the seizure of multiple handguns, an assault-style rifle, ammunition, and firearm parts. In Mississauga, CBSA officers also worked alongside the RCMP to dismantle a narcotics operation involving nitazenes — synthetic opioids significantly more potent than fentanyl — with drugs and cash seized during the investigation.
Another major focus has been outbound enforcement. Using advanced x-ray technology, CBSA officers in the GTA examined thousands of shipping containers, intercepting 187 stolen vehicles valued at more than $11.6 million before they could leave the country. These operations highlight how CBSA efforts extend beyond incoming threats to protecting Canada’s trade system from organized crime networks operating within Ontario.
