The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says 2025 saw a significant increase in border enforcement results, particularly in the fight against illegal drugs, weapons, and smuggling tied to organized crime.
Between January 1 and October 31, 2025, CBSA officers intercepted 30,791 kilograms of illegal drugs, up from 25,600 kilograms in 2024. The seizures included 2.6 kilograms of fentanyl, a 47 per cent decrease from last year, 3,243 kilograms of cocaine (down 18 per cent), 87 kilograms of heroin, marking a 135 per cent increase, and 1,703 kilograms of methamphetamine, down from 3,064 kilograms in 2024. Officers also seized 922 kilograms of other opioids, a 289 per cent increase, and 24,833 kilograms of other drugs and precursor chemicals, up 35 per cent year over year.
Weapons interceptions remained steady, with CBSA officers seizing more than 13,500 weapons, including over 740 firearms. Of those firearms, 650 originated from the United States, highlighting ongoing concerns around cross-border gun trafficking.
Smuggling enforcement also intensified. Officers intercepted over 42,400 kilograms of cannabis and 783,424 kilograms of undeclared tobacco, representing nearly three times the cannabis seized in the same period last year and a 43 per cent increase in tobacco seizures. Detector Dog Service Teams conducted 29,486 searches, leading to nearly 14,000 interceptions of high-risk food, plant, and animal products, along with 1,805 seizures involving prohibited drugs, firearms, and undeclared currency.
CBSA officials say the results demonstrate how border enforcement continues to play a key role in protecting public safety and disrupting organized criminal networks operating across borders.
