Halton Regional Police say they have arrested a Brampton man in connection with a sophisticated online investment scam that defrauded Canadian victims of more than $950,000.
According to investigators, the scheme began in the fall of 2024, when an 83-year-old Halton resident invested $750,000 into what he believed was a legitimate PC Financial Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC). Police later determined the investment was made through a fraudulent website, resulting in the loss of the victim’s retirement savings.
During their investigation, detectives identified a second victim in Alberta who had been defrauded of $250,000 through the same fake investment platform.
Police say the scam originated in England, where suspects impersonated PC Financial advisors using personal details taken from LinkedIn profiles. These individuals then worked with an Ontario-based accomplice to receive and transfer stolen funds overseas.
Investigators allege the accused created a shell company, “Intact Global Inc.”, and opened several business bank accounts to receive the proceeds of the fraud. More than $950,000 was funneled through these accounts before being transferred to England and further laundered.
On December 5, 2025, members of the HRPS Financial Crimes Unit arrested Inderjeet Singh, 26, of Brampton and charged him with Fraud over $5,000, Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and Laundering proceeds of crime
Singh was released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in Milton at a later date.
Police are urging residents to be extremely cautious when evaluating investment opportunities. Officers warn that fraudsters frequently pose reputable financial professionals and often use sophisticated websites to deceive potential victims.
