Air Transat has cancelled several flights ahead of a possible pilots’ strike. The strike could begin early Wednesday morning, potentially affecting thousands of Canadian travellers during the busy holiday season.
The company said that more than half a dozen flights scheduled for Tuesday were cancelled, including routes between Toronto and Cancun, Toronto and Punta Cana, and Montreal and Punta Cana. On Monday, the airline operated four additional flights to bring some passengers home earlier than planned.
Negotiations are still underway in Montreal for a new contract covering 750 pilots. The pilots are seeking higher wages, better job security, and improved work -life balance.
Transat says it is working to reach a deal and avoid major disruptions. A strike or lockout could begin as early as 3 a.m. EDT on Wednesday.
