Man in custody after threatening call sparks City Hall security respons 

A 37-year-old man has been charged following a security incident that triggered a hold-and-secure at Burlington City Hall. 

According to the Halton Regional Police Service, the investigation began Wednesday at around 1:15 p.m., when a City of Burlington staff member received a threatening telephone call from an agitated man. Police say the caller issued explicit threats of physical harm toward employees working at City Hall. 

As a precaution, Burlington City Hall was immediately closed and staff were sent home while officers launched an investigation. 

Police located and arrested a suspect at approximately 8 p.m. later that evening. No injuries were reported. 

City officials later confirmed the hold-and-secure was lifted Wednesday night, and Burlington City Hall resumed normal operations, reopening Thursday morning. 

The accused, a 37-year-old Burlington resident ,has been charged with one count of uttering threats to cause death. He remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing in Milton, Ontario.
