The City of Brampton has announced a series of budgetary measures aimed at strengthening fiscal responsibility and ensuring long-term financial sustainability. Effective immediately, the city has implemented a hiring freeze on all new positions until January 5, 2026, aligning with the Ontario government’s recent province-wide hiring freeze across public agencies, boards, and commissions.
In addition, the city is right-sizing services to match council-approved funding levels, focusing particularly on areas facing declining revenues or rising costs. Departments have been instructed to identify savings in line with 2% inflationary increases, 1% projected revenue growth, and a 1% efficiency savings target. These adjustments are designed to minimize disruption to services while maintaining quality and affordability for residents.
City officials emphasized that the measures are being implemented with careful consideration to protect essential services. “We remain committed to responsible governance and ensuring that every dollar is used effectively to meet the needs of our growing community,” the statement said.
