Brampton, ON – Peel Regional Police say they are stepping up enforcement at Trinity Common Mall in Brampton, where late-night meet-ups have increasingly led to dangerous driving, fireworks, public drinking, and excessive noise.
In a video message, Constable Tyler Bell-Morena said the gatherings have become an “increased concern” for residents and business owners, adding that police are “fed up” with the ongoing disruptions.
“Residents and businesses are fed up, so are we,” Bell-Morena said. “This is not a space for parties, car meets, fireworks, racing, drinking and driving, or any behaviour that creates a hazard or disruption.”
Despite hundreds of charges already laid, several arrests, and multiple vehicle impoundments, police say the behaviour continues.
The latest incident happened on Friday, August 16, when officers arrested a 21-year-old Brampton man for dangerous driving at a car meet.
According to police, a white Dodge Challenger was seen driving dangerously in the area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly tried to evade capture. Police say they were able to contain the vehicle without initiating a pursuit. The driver then abandoned the car and fled on foot, but was caught after a short chase.
Ajaypreet Sidhu, 21, of Brampton, has been charged with racing a motor vehicle, obstructing a plate, causing a public nuisance, and flight from a peace officer. His licence has been suspended and his vehicle impounded.
Police say they will continue to monitor the mall, issue fines, and make arrests as necessary.
“If you’re not on the property for legitimate reasons, unable to behave or conduct yourself appropriately, if you don’t have authorization to be here then you’re not welcome,” Bell-Morena warned.
