Caledon, ON – A Caledon man is facing serious drug charges after border officials intercepted nearly $25 million worth of suspected cocaine at the Blue Water Bridge crossing near Sarnia.
According to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), the seizure took place on July 23 when a commercial truck entering Canada from the United States was flagged for secondary inspection at the Point Edward port of entry.
Upon examining the vehicle’s trailer, officers reportedly discovered seven duffel bags filled with tightly packed bricks of suspected cocaine. The total weight of the drugs amounted to 197 kilograms, with an estimated street value of $24.6 million.
The driver, identified as 29-year-old Onkar Kalsi of Caledon, was arrested at the scene and transferred into the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). He now faces charges of importation of cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The CBSA noted that between January 1 and July 10 of this year, it has seized 1,164 kilograms of cocaine originating from the United States—more than double the 514 kilograms intercepted from all other countries combined.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out further arrests or charges.
