Ontario – The Ontario government has announced $10 million in new funding to enhance the province’s emergency response systems following a year of ice storms, wildfires, and worsening extreme weather.
Emergency Preparedness Minister Jill Dunlop made the announcement Monday, saying the funds will help local communities access critical resources like flood barriers, drones, machinery, and food services.
“The government is protecting Ontario from all threats—wildland fires, flooding, ice storms, or whatever else may come our way,” Dunlop said.
The province also confirmed it’s partnering with 13 organizations, including Feed Ontario, GlobalMedic, and Team Rubicon Canada, to support emergency response through the Ontario Corps, a network of trained professionals and volunteers.
The move follows warnings about the increasing severity of climate-related disasters, with millions losing power during a March ice storm and wildfire smoke recently ranking Toronto among the worst cities globally for air quality.
