Two Toronto residents are facing multiple charges after a month-long drug trafficking investigation led by York Regional Police resulted in the seizure of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cash, and a loaded firearm.
The investigation, conducted by the York Regional Police Guns, Gangs and Drugs Enforcement Unit (GGDEU), began in April 2025 following reports of fentanyl distribution across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Over several months, investigators gathered evidence linking suspects to the production and trafficking of controlled substances.
On July 16, officers executed a search warrant at a Toronto residence. The operation led to the seizure of more than a kilogram of fentanyl, a quantity of methamphetamine, an undisclosed amount of cash, a loaded firearm, ammunition, and a prohibited device.
The investigation has led to charges against two individuals. Dumar Monteith, 31, of Toronto, is facing specific charges of trafficking a controlled substance and possession of a firearm while prohibited.
In addition, both Monteith and Shakir Baptiste, 30, of Toronto, are jointly charged with multiple firearm and drug-related offences. These include unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited device, and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number.
Both suspects are also charged with the unlawful production of a controlled substance and three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
York Regional Police are urging anyone with information related to this case to contact the #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7345. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or online at
