56-year-old Hamilton woman charged for allegedly embezzling nearly $72,000 from a non-profit organization’s account

The Hamilton Police Service Financial Crimes Unit says it has arrested a woman after an investigation into allegations of embezzlement of funds from a local non-profit organization between 2021 and 2023. 

In a news release, police stated that approximately $72,000 was allegedly embezzled from a fundraising account belonging to Rygiel Supports for Community Living. 

Police identified the accused as Viola Galamini, 56, of Hamilton. She was arrested on January 22, 2026, and faces the following charges: 

  • Criminal Breach of Trust 
  • Fraud Over $5,000 
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 
  • Use of a Forged Document 

Galamini was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court in April 2026.
