Durham Regional Police Service has charged a woman in connection with an alleged collision with a parked vehicle near a public school in Whitby before fleeing the scene.
Police say the accused is a 32-year-old woman from Whitby. The collision occurred on Friday, January 30, 2026 at approximately 3:50 p.m. in the area of Fifewood Crescent and Fallingbrook Street, when a grey Kia sedan struck a parked Hyundai sedan vehicle. Both drivers had arrived at the school to pick up children. When the driver of the Hyundai tried to speak with the driver of Kia, she fled the scene. Several witnesses reported that the Kia driver appeared to be impaired.
A short time later, officers located the Kia at a nearby residence. The driver allegedly displayed signs of impairment and was taken into custody without incident. No one involved in the collision suffered any physical injuries.
Following two separate breath tests, the accused recorded blood alcohol levels of 170 mg and 180 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood. The 32-year-old woman from Whitby has been charged with: Operation While Impaired, Operation While Impaired – Exceed, Fail to Remain at Accident, and Dangerous Operation. She was released on an Undertaking.
