$25,000 reward announced for information on 2023 Pickering casino homicide suspect

Durham Regional Police Service is asking for the public’s help in locating the suspect involved in a fatal shooting that occurred at a casino in Pickering in October 2023. Crime Stoppers has announced a reward of $25,000 for information leading to the suspect. 

At approximately 5:05 a.m. on October 9, 2023, a shooting took place at the Pickering Casino Resort, located at 888 Durham Live Avenue in Pickering. As a result of the incident, a 34-year-old man named Michael Ferdinand died. Officers from the West Division responded to the scene. 

The Durham Regional Police Service says that 20-year-old Tyjae Nosworthy-Smith, with no fixed address, is wanted for Second Degree Murder in connection with this homicide. He is believed to have ties to the Driftwood area, located near Jane Street and Finch Avenue West in Toronto. Police describe Tyjae as a Black male, 20 years old, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 110 pounds, with a tattoo on his left elbow that reads “Chantel.” He is also known by the nickname “baby2″. 

Investigators are asking Tyjae to seek legal representation and surrender to police. Anyone who helps him avoid law enforcement may be charged under the Criminal Code of Canada and prosecuted accordingly. Police advise that if Tyjae is seen, call 911 immediately and do not attempt to approach him, as he is believed to be armed and dangerous. 

Anyone who knows his current location or has had contact with Tyjae since the homicide is asked to contact the homicide unit at 905-579-1520 ext. 5415 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a tip online at durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $25,000.
