15-year-old arrested after series of armed robberies in Clarington and Bowmanville

A 15-year-old male from Clarington is in police custody following a series of armed robberies at convenience stores in Clarington and Bowmanville, Durham Regional Police say. 

Investigators allege the first incident occurred on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at approximately 8:15 p.m., when a male suspect entered the Circle K located at 180 King Street East in Clarington. Police say the suspect demanded cash while armed with two large knives before fleeing the scene. 

A second robbery is alleged to have taken place on Saturday, January 3, 2026, around 6:10 p.m., at Liberty Best Variety, located at 83 Liberty Street South in Bowmanville. According to police, the suspect pointed a firearm at an employee and demanded cash. 

Police say the suspect returned to the same Bowmanville store on Monday, January 5, 2026, at approximately 8:50 p.m., once again demanding cash while pointing what appeared to be a firearm at an employee. Officers responded quickly, and the suspect was arrested a short distance away while attempting to flee. The firearm was later determined to be an imitation handgun. 

No physical injuries were reported in any of the incidents. 

The youth has been charged with three counts of robbery, three counts of disguise with intent, two counts of pointing a firearm, three counts of possession of a weapon for committing an offence, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. These allegations have not been proven in court.
