A new report from Public Health Ontario shows that measles cases are continuing to drop. This week, Ontario reported just 12 new cases, down from 33 last week and 96 the week before.
In the northern region, which covers Sault Ste. Marie and nearby areas, 2 additional people were infected. This region has recently seen the highest surge in cases.
In southwestern Ontario, the area that had been most affected for several months, 4 new cases were identified.
Since last October, when the outbreak began through travel connected to New Brunswick, Ontario has recorded a total of 2,223 measles cases.
Across Canada, Alberta has the second-highest count of measles infections. So far, 1,169 cases have been reported there, including 64 new cases in the past week.
